Lori Williams, Psy.D.

Education

I completed my undergraduate studies and received my B.A. in Psychology from California State University Northridge. I then received my M.A. in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy at Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology, as well as my Psy.D. in Psychology from Pepperdine.

Clinical Experience

My clinical experiences include providing individual therapy, psychological testing, and group therapy across diverse ages and populations. During my training, I provided therapy at a variety of settings, including local universities (Pepperdine University Seaver College Counseling Center, California State University Fullerton Counseling and Psychological Services), community counseling centers, homeless shelters, and as a psychological assistant in private practice. I also provided therapy and psychological assessments to elementary through high school students struggling with mood disorders, learning disorders, and behavioral difficulties, as well as neuropsychological testing to adults at the UCLA Semel Institute Center for Addictive Behaviors (now closed). I completed my postdoctoral internship at Santa Monica College Psychological Services, where I provided brief individual counseling to SMC students. Currently, I still work at SMC as an academic counselor, as well as CSU Northridge University Counseling Services as a licensed staff psychologist. I also continue to work with adolescents and adults of all ages at Santa Monica Therapy. My clinical interests include depression, anxiety, identity development, transitional difficulties, relationship problems, and the integration of music and psychology.

Research

My doctoral dissertation was focused on developing a resource manual that may help clinicians use music-based interventions in their work with adolescents struggling with family conflict and/or parental divorce.
