Samy Harbert Gelfand, LMFT
Education
I earned my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education. I completed my undergraduate studies at USC as well, where I received a B.A. in Communication. I am licensed as a marriage and family therapist (LMFT 132735) by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Clinical Experience
My goal as a therapist is to help others discover the most authentic version of themselves and live a fulfilling and meaningful life. Using a psychodynamic foundation, I work together with clients to confront and navigate the challenges they may be facing in their daily lives. I have a warm and nurturing therapeutic style that allows my clients to feel safe and comfortable exploring their most difficult inner thoughts and feelings. I specialize in working with people on relationship issues, as well as those who may be experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression. I often work with adolescents (age 15 and older) experiencing social or academic related anxiety, stress, or difficulty with identity development during transitional periods. Lastly, I also specialize in working with professional women who balance multiple roles in their personal and professional lives.
While completing a rigorous master’s program at USC, I received clinical training at the prestigious Maple Counseling Center in Beverly Hills. There, I worked with a wide variety of people from various backgrounds experiencing the effects of trauma, mood disorders, and grief and loss. I have experience working in a diverse range of clinical settings, including school based counseling at Beverly Hills High School and community mental health at The Manhattan Beach Community Counseling Center.
In addition to my work with Santa Monica Therapy, I serve as a mental health consultant for Campbell Scholar’s Program, an organization dedicated to supporting first generation students on their path to college. I also serve on UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital Board’s Next Generation Committee. I am accepting new clients both virtually and in-person, please feel free to reach out if you would like to work with me. I look forward to the opportunity to witness your journey of self-growth.
